Like so many of the residents here at Seven Lakes, Will made his first visit here to spend time with family and friends. His wife Kay’s mother and father had settled along the shore of Echo Lake in 1991, followed later by another of their daughters and her family. It was on one of their many Summer days on the lake that Will and Kay learned of a nearby lot for sale. Two years later they moved into their newly built home overlooking the Lake Sequoia.
Willwas about to trade in his previous life of 28 years of distinguished military service, 8 years at Time Domain Corporation (5 as CEO) and 13 years as founding Chairman and CEO of Still Serving Veterans, an organization dedicated to empowering veterans and their families to have full access to careers, benefits and services.
A graduate of West Point with concentrated studies in National Security and Public Affairs, it was a seamless fit for Will to run and win a seat on the Seven Lakes Landowners Association, and become chair of the Security Committee. At the time, Seven Lakes was just breaking it’s ties with the prior Security provider and was looking for a replacement, but in particular, one with local representatives, so any adjustments or any fine tuning could be dealt with in a reasonable time frame.
After interviewing several security providers, the decision was made to go with Professional Security and Investigation, founded and based in Carthage. This meant that during those first few months of transition, PSI’s owner/operator could be on site to work with Will and his team. Will is the first to point out that a complete change and upgrade of the gate hardware and software bringing in a new team of guards to help make Seven Lakes as secure as possible, is no easy task.
This year hasn’t been without it’s “growing pains,” but with the help of the entire community, and the close working relationship between the Board, SLLA HOA staff and the Security Committee, ways of addressing our many safety needs are being met.
Separate from PSI’s duties, software is being provided by Proptia, a company working in gatehouse management software. Again, this meant a complete restructuring of the software involved in visitor check-in, pre registering guests, and record keeping. This leaves the guards free to manage visitor access and track entry and exit and generate reports. Collecting all the necessary data and bringing residents into the new system is still ongoing, but as Will points out, initial reports show details such as more than 20.000 gate lifts over the extended 4th of July weekend, vastly increased numbers of visitors during the Open Swim at Echo Lake and the Alzheimer’s sponsored run a few weeks ago.
With the addition of the closed system security cameras, PSI, along with Moore Co. Sherriffs Deputies, have responded to several incidents that otherwise could have gone unchecked. Along with the Board members, Led by a Board ad hoc committee.and the data transferring team, he hopes to see the system fully functional soon.
Seven Lakes can be proud and confident in working with Will, aservant leader, helping us optimize“property values, peace of mind, and quality of life.”
