As part of the SLLA 50th Birthday Celebration, the Board of Directors voted in February to name the club house and pool “The Fred Lawrence Community Center”.
Fred Lawrence was the visionary and lead developer of our wonderful community.
Early in April 1973, the Housing & Urban Development (HUD) letter was received granting permission for Seven Lakes to build homes as part of a residential community.
The permission letter was immediately filed with Moore County and the construction of homes soon began.
The Lawrence Family built a home on Lake Sequoia and several members of the family still live in the community.
The dedication of the Fred Lawrence Community Center is a small token of appreciation for what Fred Lawrence created and what we all now enjoy.
An area inside the building will feature photos of the project as construction of the lakes, dams, and buildings began.
A plaque will recognize Fred Lawrence, as well as David Alan Shaw and Peter V. Tufts, for their contributions to developing the North and South residential areas as well as the Seven Lakes Country Club.
What these three men achieved, against the odds, was truly remarkable and probably could not be accomplished today.
