If you want to have a blast of adrenaline, visit the Whitewater Center in Charlotte. Here they offer everything but skydiving: whitewater rafting, zip lines, kayaking, rock climbing (over a swimming pool for beginners), mountain biking, jumps and, what? ice skating beginning in November. The Upper Pond converts every November into 17,000 sq. ft. of ice including an ice trail and free skate area. Centered in the converted pond is an on-ice Airstream serving hot and cold beverages.
Raft on the world’s largest manmade whitewater river. Experience class II-IV whitewater with a professional guide. The Whitewater Center’s river is made up of four distinct sections of whitewater: the Instruction, Freestyle, Wilderness, and Competition Channels comprised of class II-IV whitewater.
Grab a Zipline! Ziplining is a recreational activity that involves traveling from a high to low elevation using gravity. The participant is secured to the zipline by a trolley system and harness. Fly over rapids and through the forest at the Whitewater Center.
Climb the world’s first deep water solo climbing complex. rock climbing that utilizes falling into a deep pool of water instead of traditional climbing protection with walls up to 45‘.
If you want to try mountain biking this is the place. The Whitewater Center maintains over 50 miles of trails for mountain bikers, hikers and trail runners.
Bike rentals are available with an Activity Pass. Single-gear, hardtail mountain bikes included with pass, 12-speed hardtail ($10).
Daily passes begin at $20 for ice skating to $49 for whitewater rafting. They also offer 4 day adventure camps for kids starting at $300.
Make it a full day with a music concert from 7-10 pm on selected weekdays and weekends.
